Awkward?

The picture at the left has nothing to do with the ultimate point of this post, but it is what began me thinking about the subject I am pursuing. When I saw this ad this morning I realized that I have seen the picture of the woman on the left about 100 times this last week, always in the exact same pose, and always modeling Victoria's Secret panties.
Victoria's Secret advertising is one of the most pervasive marketing schemes in our culture, so it is no surprise that I begin to recognize the models that appear in print, in commercials, etc.
Last night, I believe it was during "Survivor" (why they be kicking out all the Latino's, yo?), a Victoria's Secret commercial came on. No big deal, but at the same time it just always feels awkward to be watching a perfectly innocent television program and all of the sudden, *BOING*, out pops a Victoria's Secret commercial with Adriana, Alessandra, and others strutting about with chests out and ass displayed.
Still, no big deal.
That got me thinking about really awkward television moments and this story:

A couple years after I started dating the future Mrs. Clear Thinker, we were at her house and I was watching television with her father while she was off with her mom. As Mrs. Clear Thinker's father began flipping through the channels (it was later at night) we passed HBO, which was showing some soft-porn fiesta (two espanol references in one post, huzzah!) He continued past this point, but a few channels later stopped, typed in the HBO numbers, and WENT BACK TO THE SOFT PORN MOVIE.
I sat there a moment, utterly embarrased and disturbed by what had just occurred, when he finally said, "I guess the women wouldn't like it if we were watching this."
I laughed nervously and he had the graciousness to change the channel back to whatever sporting event we were originally watching.

Now, I realize that he was probably just fucking with me, trying to see how I would react. A good friend of mine and I always talk about how when we have children, especially daughters, we're going to screw with their boyfriends royally just to see if they can handle being a part of the family.

Was this what occurred to me then? I sincerely hope so because otherwise Mrs. Clear Thinker's father is just weird about that kind of thing (good man, otherwise.)
